Dom Valecillo – Comicartist, Metalvocalist, Lunatic.
Born in 1978 in Kiel, Germany. My journey into the world of art started at a very young age. My mother, a German native, introduced me to the magic of comicbooks, bringing home Superman and Mickey Mouse comics that sparked a lifelong love for the medium. My father, who hails from South America, wasn't part of my life until I was 30, but his influence is something I feel in my creative work today. At just two years old, I picked up a pencil and began to sketch. The first things I drew were simple – ducks with machine guns, an odd but playful combination that hints at the raw, unfiltered creativity I would later develop. As time went on, my art evolved, shaped by a passion for music, pop culture, and all things creative. I’ve always been a fan of rock music, action figures, stickers, and video games, and they have had a significant impact on my artistic vision. Over the years, my drawing style has grown distinct and easily recognizable, and it wasn’t long before people began to take notice. Thanks to the power of social media, I was able to share my work with a broader audience. This exposure opened doors to collaborations with prominent figures, including John Wesley Shipp from The Flash, and iconic rock bands such as FILTER and STATIC-X. Since 2013, I have been involved in various comic projects, working both within the German and U.S. markets. My work spans from illustrating book covers to designing album covers for musicians. Alongside my partner, Lumiel H. Nox, I am the co-publisher and illustrator of the horror anthology comic series Dinge von Interesse, a project that blends my love for storytelling and my darker artistic inclinations. But that’s not all. Music is another major part of my life. As a vocalist and screamer in several metal bands, I sometimes find it hard to distinguish which side of me is stronger – the musician who draws comics or the comic artist who screams on stage. But in truth, they are both essential parts of who I am. They feed into each other, each discipline influencing the other in ways that I find deeply satisfying. Art, whether on the page or in sound, is a means of expression, and I’ve always felt that my work is a reflection of both the chaos and beauty that life has to offer. My goal is to continue exploring this journey, creating art that resonates, challenges, and, hopefully, inspires others. Thank you for taking the time to explore my work. ~ Dom Valecillo May 13th 2025
